ABSTRACT

Experience with INB regulations at CERN

Andre Faugier, Ghislain Roy
CERN, Geneva, Switzerland

In France, nuclear installations have to comply with a set of rules and regulations and are subject to to scrutiny from the "Direction Générale de la Sûreté Nucléaire et de Radioprotection" (DGSNR) and its technical counterpart, the "Institut de Radioprotection et Sûreté Nucléaire" (IRSN).

CERN has experience with these rules and regulations since it already has such "Installations Nucléaires de Base" : LEP was an INB and its dismantling has been under particular scrutiny. SPS is also and INB and is currently in operation; LHC and CNGS will be classified as INB as well and the approval process is underway

The experience of working with these rules and regulations will be reviewed, from the safety sudies to be completed, through the approval process and onto the operational aspects. We will outline the unique position of CERN as an international organisation in this respect.
