The ISOLDE Facility at CERN provides radioactive ion beams for experiments by bombarding 1.4 GeV protons on targets placed on the General Purpose Separator (GPS) or High Resolution Separator (HRS). Due to the varying nature and limited lifetime of these targets, frequent target changes (~50) are carried out throughout the year. This presentation describes the target handling procedures at ISOLDE, notably with the use of industrial robots, and covers the autopsies of targets to gain further knowledge for future target development. A proposition for the separation of the different target materials before treatment as radioactive waste will also be presented.
